Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, Lyon

Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse is a covered marketplace with over 50 upscale shops and restaurants. Newly built in the 1960s, this is also a market with the best of Lyon's ingredients for the city's famous cuisine. Sausages, dumplings, and snails are hung, iced, and arranged just so to lure your eye away from competing vendors; this isn't the original market, but a reconstructed version. The original was built in 1869, but later was demolished. The locals missed a market where they could purchase the best goods directly from the origin, so it was reconstructed in its full glory and with modern improvements, such as spacious walkways. • The setting is dated, cold, no atmosphere, it's tristounet, I expected much bigger and much better! It's much worse than the San Miguel market in Madrid!! Too bad, because I think that the Lyonnais are able to bring more warmth, and creativity in this place, to make this place the must-see covered market of the French landscape! Unfortunately, we're a long way from that at work! Eddy-Clyde

  • One Saturday lunchtime we decide to go for a bite to eat at the Paul Bocuse Halls. To our surprise impossible to find a place with space at 1:30 p.m. Either the restaurateurs let you line up to tell you there is no room or they are unkind to tell you that they no longer take anyone. We end up with a horseshoe that welcomes us with kindness and offers us what is left. I advise against this place where you will find a mackerel at 27 euros per kilo, the sea bream at 37 euros and the bar at 57 euros. Summer Beaufort at 47 euros............ Go to the small cork of Lyon, it's cheaper, you will be welcomed with dignity and the place is atypical and leave Les Halles for the Lyon bobos.
