Tours et Remparts d'Aigues-Mortes, Aigues-Mortes

Well-preserved medieval city walls, including Tours et Remparts d'Aigues-Mortes, surround this small French town. The Tower of Constance is one of the most famous examples of 13th-century Western European military architecture in the marshlands. It was designed to provide warning signals in case of invading fleets and to offer a spiritual headquarters for clergy. Look for the ground-floor guardroom with protective portcullis, a cellar with a pantry and ammunition storage, and dungeons. The structure also includes the Knight's Hall. Take in the views of the region from the terrace. The ramparts stretch for a distance of 1,650 m (138 ft). • During our week end in AIGUES MORTES, it is a must to visit the towers and ramparts of dead Aigues. Frankly, it is very good and this visit also pleased the children. Beware, the visit can last a long time because you go all the way around the ramparts and there are animations/explanations all along the course. We got "trapped" CAD that we arrived at 15.30; We started quiet by the Tower of the ramparts so much so that we did not have time to visit the Tower constancy (which is a little the highlight of the show) because it was 17.30, time of closing. Roughly, you manage your visit but pay attention to the timing!!! Fortunately, we were allowed to return the next day for free to finish our visit. The explanations throughout are varied and lively and of quality. There's some for all tastes. Finally, the price, I believe free for inferior to 12 years and very modest for adults. Frankly, to do!!!!

  • This ride allows you to take the height of seeing AIGUES-MORTES and its countryside. Quiet walk where you can find historical information in each of the towers. I did it with my children aged 12 and 6. The little girl who still does not like to walk loved it.

  • Incredibly well preserved medieval defences (walls and towers) on a huge scale. Really impressive place. The old town, inside the walls, is charming.
  • This a great place to spend at least a couple of hours. Technically speaking, the walk around the ramparts could be done in no time at all if you pretend you are a centurion and march, but if you want to check out the interiors of the towers and gates be prepared for it to take longer. There is only one way onto the walls and one way off....in the same location and toilets at the beginning/end. You can of course go just a little way then go back. The views are great especially if you are into rooftops. If you are going all the way round, don’t forget to take some water. Especially on a hot day!
