Salin d'Aigues-Mortes, Aigues-Mortes

With a foundation dating back to 102 BCE, Salin d'Aigues-Mortes is a seaside commune surrounded by well-preserved medieval city walls. It's also home to the Tower of Constance, built on the site of the former Matafère Tower that Charlemagne constructed in 790 CE. Despite the town's origins, most of the existing structures were created during the Middle Ages. Explore several structures designed by various monarchs, as well as the location where 45 Templars were imprisoned and tried. You also can visit the Chapel of the Gray Penitents, Chapel of the White Penitents, the Church of Notre-Dame-des-Sablons, and Saint-Louis Square, which contains the famous statue of Saint-Louis. • Very informative visit, I liked the mountain salt, only mountain of the corner... Very nice little train driver. I recommend it.

  • Beautiful Tour at €10.30 per adult and CA €8 per child. A little train took us around the salt pans with a lot of audioguide in Italian language. A tour of CA a very enjoyable hour. Beautiful saline, with pink flamingos everywhere that placids are photographed posing. It'S really worth it.

  • The trip on the little train was brilliant. Now I’ve read reviews by English people saying it was bad because there was no translation but I say embrace the opportunity to just listen to some French and appreciate the views which are spectacular! The driver of the train tells you stuff and is clearly passionate about salt! You stop to look around a little museum and another stop to climb a mound of salt for spectacular views! If anything it is worth it just for this. Saw flamingos and hummingbird moths and dragonflies flew alongside and through the train. If you have a big proper job camera, probably don’t even think about using this as you are rattling all over the place. Use your phone and save your big camera for the top of the salt mound.
  • You can visit this place only with the little train-tour. The tour is middle-rate and photographers like me will be disappointed: not enough stops and time to take pictures of the rose étang de ville and the flamingos and other nice spots on the site. Staff in the boutique not too friendly and more busy with talking to each other than to look after clients.
