  • On the way back of the Kallur Lighthouse it would almost equal to a crime not to visit Kopakonan. There is a car park in that small village which also provides a super clean toilet. You have to go dow...  more »
  • The statue is built in bronze and stainless steel and is located on the island of Kalsoy from 2015. Its birth is due to a legend, the legend of Selki, the woman Foca. On the island of Kalsoy or "Isle of Men", one of the most remote and desolate of the archipelago, located to the southeast of the same, you will hear a sad legend linked to Selkie or Kópakonan. It all began in a distant past when it was believed that who died of violent death or committing suicide, turned into a seal. Once a year, however, these beings could return to their human form to celebrate joyfully until sunrise, when they should have redressed their animal skin. It is said that one night a young farmer from the village of Mikladalur noticed a group of seals swimming to the beach and transformed into human beings. Among these he noticed a beautiful woman and, to avoid losing her, stole her seal skin hiding it in a trunk. The woman, discovered the theft, thanks to the smell came to the farmer who, despite the supplicings, forced the maiden to marry him. They had children, but the farmer kept the key of the trunk always with him, tied tightly to the belt until the day when, by boat, he realized that he had forgotten it at home. Nothing was worth the race to the house: The woman was now gone and returned from her first husband, also turned into a seal, giving birth to other puppies. The woman-Seal, however, on the occasion of the next period of slaughter of the Seals, appeared in a dream to the farmer begging him to spare his family "Marina", describing it in detail. The man however did not give weight to the vision and the husband and the puppies of Kópakonan perished; Their meat arrived right on the table of the peasant but at that time the seal-woman, in the terrible likeness of a troll, came into the house and uttered a curse: all the men of Kalsoy would be dead, down from the cliff or at sea. Great place to take pictures. Certainly a unique attraction, not to be missed on a trip to the Faroer.
