Mit Rahina Museum, Cairo

4.1
#2 of 110 in Museums in Cairo
Part of a World Heritage Site, Mit Rahina Museum displays the remnants of the ancient city of Memphis. This open-air museum has multiple sphinxes and statues, including a popular figure of Ramses II. Though many artefacts uncovered in this area have been sent to other larger institutions, this small museum makes a particularly worthwhile stop when combined with a trip to the nearby pyramid complex at Giza. Our Cairo online visit planner makes visiting Mit Rahina Museum and other Cairo attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • What little remains of the magnificent Capital of antigo Egypt is a small open-air museum where the Statue of Ramses II which is precisely the only roof is the star, a sphinx and several statues, capitals and various remains of which was the most populous city in the world to it hurts that there is little of a tremendous city...

  • The Memphis Museum is not like the Cairo Museum, as it is really interesting. In the suburbs, everything is simpler and more modest. In fact, the whole museum consists of one building. The museum gallery can be overrun in a few minutes, but I do not recommend a quick inspection. It is necessary to allocate time for each exhibition, because all statues and parts of buildings were created several thousand years ago. After that, it is necessary to reach the second floor, where the panorama of the archaeological site opens.

  • Absolutely the coolest place. If you go to Egypt, going to Memphis is a MUST. It is about a 40 minute drive from Giza and so worth it. It is so amazing it is honestly hard to put into words! When you go to the Cairo museum a lot of the stuff there is labeled 'found in Memphis' so it's historically significant. It's an outside garden and you can touch almost everything. I'm sure you aren't supposed to but you should :)
  • Wonderful, it takes you thousands of years back in history, if you visit Cairo you must go to this place and discover the feelings for your self, but as usually with egyptian ticket sellers, they would want to charge you a higher price than the regular one determined by the authorities, anyway, no other place in the world is similar to egyptian museums with their unique magic.
