  • As I told you, not so long ago, we were with Coco in Egypt and we started our circuit non-tourist by the desert accompanied by Bedouins. Today I want to tell you the end of that day walk: nothing more and nothing less than to reach the top of Mount Sinai. On the last day of walking, you arrive at a border crossing that I know is very tightly controlled due to attacks suffered and is considered one of the most dangerous areas, so this is not a walk to risk doing alone. Do it with guides who know everything that can happen. There are traditional places to visit in Egypt, such as the great capital Cairo, the city of Alexandria, the ruins of Luxor or the spa of Sharm el Sheik, which are spectacular destinations. But for those who are looking for something different, not so traditional, not so touristy, I can recommend as a destination Mount Sinai and the monastery of Santa Cecilia. For those who did not hear it, according to Christian tradition and also the Jewish tradition (who share the same foundations), on the top of this Mount mosheed Moises the tables of the Law, the Ten Commandments. Today in a religious and tourist center, nestled in the Sinai Desert. The desert is a different place, of warm days and icy nights, but this particular place has an aura, a sty of holiness, a different energy, which can be felt from the moment you arrive at the ascent camp. It is important, before any adventure, to consult a tourist agency, because these trips are always handled through them. It's also important for safety, because it's a somewhat risky area. Once you passed the border crossing that mentioned them above, you walk for a moment in plain and when it comes time to climb you have two options: do it by camel or climb by your own means (with Coco we choose the latter); it takes you a couple of hours and sometimes requires effort but it's worth without hesitation. Then you get to the place where you're going to sleep (it's a saying, because it's just a few hours before you start climbing again), which yes, you're going to throw yourself in Bedouin mode on mattresses to share the food (no cutlery, as I told you already , that's exactly what They use Arabic bread for, with which we'd get toasted here. The few hours you sleep I know it's going to be in an open place and you're going to feel footsteps constantly: don't panic, they're the ones that take advantage of you and are already climbing to the top. The ascent begins in the early morning, starting at 1 a.m., because the goal is to be able to see the sunrise at the top. It's a path that demands some physical endurance, but even if you have bedoubling there are Bedouins and shepherds who help you reach the top. The Sinai Peninsula is the easternmost part of Egypt, between the Mediterranean and the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba, both forks of the Red Sea. The sunrise is indescribable, no photo can transmit the energy that is lived, that it becomes dense before dawn, with the prayers of the devotees around the chapel of the Holy Trinity. Faithful of every religion gather to pray and sing, and what you feel is so deep that it transcends any belief. After hours of being there, enjoying the atmosphere, getting excited watching the sunrise, you start the descent again and there if you are going to have your breakfast (every effort deserves reward). Together with your already Bedouin friends, you raise the camp and again on foot we begin the descent. Upon a walk you can also visit the monastery of Santa Cecilia, which still stands despite the Arab conquest, thanks to a decree of the Prophet Muhammad, to protect this sacred place. Coqueros kisses! • We did a 10-day tour of three cities in Egypt. The tour is very well organized, all the transfers in air-conditioned vehicles, the excellent guides, spoke in Spanish and always very willing to help us. The service was impeccable everywhere we went. We loved it and had a lovely time!
