Roman Amphitheatre, Alexandria

Once a place of leisure for residents of Alexandria, Roman Amphitheatre stands as a small but well preserved bit of evidence that an ancient culture once thrived in this area. The only Roman amphitheater in the country, the site features 13 terraces made of white marble, upon which the spectators sat cheering on various ancient events. • Nice place to walk around for an hour, with the added bonus of some of the ruin artefacts from subsea alexandria that have been saved from the ocean and stored there. Pleasant surroundings and a few s...  more »
  • I was interested in the Egypt because there were few Roman ruins and came to see by train from Cairo. It is a short walk from Cairo station and is easy to understand. I can see it from the outside, but I want to see it well. There is a restroom in the building on the left as soon as it enters, but the management person's Bakashi attack is received. The ruins remained firmly than I thought, and there was a moderate scale. It is a place to feel the history romance of the City of Alexandria.

  • There's a focal point in the theater (you can see it on the ground), once you stand on it the whole audio environment changes, as though you have been put inside some enclosed facility. Sounds become curved your way :-) very peculiar experience. Otherwise, a mix of Greek and Roman stuff, preserved in pretty good shape. Most probably, some university or something
  • It's a very beautiful setting but as usual badly maintain and hardly find some old panels with the item description. It will be great, if they could make a coffee shop inside. People could enjoy the view and nice air around, as in the city is so dusty and gassed from the thousands of old cars running around. Dont forget to look at the Birds Roman mosaics hiding somewhere at the back of the site.
