Takakkaw Falls, Yoho National Park

#2 of 142 in Parks in Kootenay Rockies
See one of Canada's highest cataracts at Takakkaw Falls. The Daly Glacier feeds these falls, which careen 254 m (833 ft) down a cliff face and create a stream of mist against the backdrop of craggy rock. The name derives from the Cree language, meaning roughly "it is magnificent." Located in a national park, the area surrounding the waterfalls offers ample hiking and climbing routes through the dramatic landscape of forests, peaks, and glaciers. • Not far from Lake Louise you can find this waterfall. It is one of the highest in Canada. The road there is well developed, except for 3 pointed turns. Actually closed for caravans, unfortunately hardly anyone sticks to it!

  • You really have to make the detour into this beautiful valley and go see this impressive waterfall. It's definitely worth it.
