Fans of classical music appreciate Toronto Music Garden, a picturesque urban green space and outdoor music venue inspired by Bach’s First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello. Curves and swirling pathways as well as graded seating typify the gardens' attractive architecture. Designed by landscape architect Julie Moir Messervy with help from internationally famed cellist Yo Yo Ma, the gardens host an array of concerts throughout the year; check the schedule ahead of arrival. Even if there are no events scheduled, take some time out for contemplation in these verdant settings. From the idea of the famous violinist Yo Yo Ma was born this wonderful place of serenity and meditation along the Toronto Waterfront. The architecture of the garden follows the structure of the famous suite: Prelude, Allemanda, Courante, Sarabanda, Minuetto, Giga, with as many stations and stopping points. Each of these shows the notation of the musical theme and a short commentary. For a better understanding would be to have listened to the song first, but it's fine after that. In any case the reading of the garden can be done on different levels, given the wide variety of cues that it offers. A little further ahead is Ireland Park, which is well worth a visit for the contrasts it presents with regard to the Music Garden.
A rather big recreation area at the shore of Lake Ontario, very meticulously kept and maintained, lots of beautiful flowers, lawns and all kinds of green landscapes. Certainly well worth a visit for a... more »
It is a very nice and great place to meditate or even have some quality time for yourself. The only thing I was not happy with was this beautiful place was completely unmaintained during winters.
A beautiful spot by the water to relax and be at peace. Friendly locals are plentiful here, and the park, though smaller than others on the city, it's well designed so you can easily find a spot that seems secluded, and you'll get the signs of wind of the lake, or concerts that take place in the garden. I highly recommend this urban parkette.
