Bayon Temple, Siem Reap

Built around the turn of the 13th century by Khmer emperor Jayavarman VII, Bayon Temple looms peaceful and crumbling over its surrounding grounds. The Mahayana Buddhist temple features 216 large, serenely smiling faces carved into its towers, which many believe represent Jayavarman himself. Within the temple, various galleries bear stone relief scenes of religious pilgrimages, battles, and everyday street life. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes to navigate the uneven ground of the maze-like temple complex. • We got in the Bayon Temple at noon and there were a lot of tourists. The place was equally awesome with Angkor Wat. We have never minded the heat really because the place was absolutely beautiful especially for those who like ancient history and structures. Mini worship places were scattered around the temple where Buddha statues were placed. The tuktuk's were also parked near the temple. The whole vibe and atmosphere of the place works in perfect harmony with the energy exuded by the temple. This truly is one of the most magical sights I have ever seen. We were able to climb the top of the temples also where tourists are allowed to climbed and gave us one of the most unforgettable views and experiences we have ever had.
  • Another one of many historical places in Cambodia. So much history, culture and craftsmanship. One place more interesting than the next. Overwhelming and at times overcrowded. It is recommended to go very early morning to avoid crowds and the heat. Take a small towel and lots of water to be prepared. Otherwise enjoy it is a cultural journey
