Famous orchid and cactus collection. In the cold months butterflies in the tropical house. Arrow poison frogs in the terrarium. Secret tip coffee house with 2 sun terraces. I hold an annual pass and visit the Botanical Garden at any time of year, as often as possible. It was laid out more than 60 years ago with a lot of sensitivity and expertise on a hill. On the north side, magnificent rhododendrons thrive, the (historic!) Rose Garden is unsurpassingly flowery, the Asian part charms, many small ponds show habitats of fauna and flora, there is a heath garden, one-hinted, see under "Curious"-Senkgarten, in the glass houses one discovers an extensive Orchid collection, carnivorous plants, steppe dwellers (legendary cactus collection!), a tropical section, terrariums (rod locusts, arrow poison frogs,...), a beautiful camellia collection. The Alpine species-rockeries from all continents! -surpasses those of Berlin and Munich, for example. The "crops" department also houses medically used poisonous plants, in the farm garden you can get suggestions for your own vegetable cultivation. A system garden has also been preserved and maintained in an exemplary way for decades. Here you will find peace and parking in front of the house! A bus (line 27) runs every 15 minutes from the centre/pigeon market up here: Get off at the "Botanical Garden" station. KURIOSES The real story at the end: When the Senkgarten was to be created more than 60 years ago, modelled on the famous gardener Karl Foerster, this was too modern for Linz managers, thus banning the garden planners. So they secretly implemented a "light variation" that you can still enjoy today, with a wonderful Japanese maple by the pond. This story was told by a cheerful, elderly lady herself, who was one of the disobedient.
I've seen the butterfly exhibit, which was really nice. I visited in winter, so there are nearly no plants. It was still nice for a walk. I hope I can vome back in summer. Must be beautiful with all those flowers then.
Superb botanical garden. Easy to get to from bus 27, just four stops, from the Promenade.
