Tours to Poseidon Outer Reef Cruises
Poseidon Outer Reef Cruises Reviews
We did a snorkeling day trip, visiting 3 different reef sites. The sites were all good, and each slightly different. There were about 25-30 people on the boat. There was plenty of staff on board to he... more »

However, there was also one or two admonishing voices of people who were already there not to raise expectations too high. Nevertheless - you have to see the Great Barrier Reef live. Of course, we didn't think about the experience we had in the way. Unfortunately, we had booked this tour in advance through an agency. We did not expect it to actually take place because four days before a cyclone had passed over the sea and the weather conditions were not particularly friendly on the day of our planned tour. We called again the day before and were more than surprised that the tour was confirmed. So we got on this boat with 50 other guests and were greeted with the fact that we should take all tablets against seasickness, as we will have a heavy crossing to the reef. Afterwards we received an energetic briefing on the ship's behaviour, the crew's responsibility for passenger safety and the options of snorkelling and diving. A medically trained crew member interviewed everyone on board individually about health problems, medication and snorkeling and diving experience. Two guests were banned from snorkelling for medical reasons, and my wife - because she refused to take the tablets - was advised not to go snorkeling. Then groups were formed and they were distributed with one crew member each for further instructions on the ship. Because of the expected strong swell, I preferred to retreat to the upper deck - although everyone there got wet through the spray and the strong wind gusts down to the skin. Those who stayed below deck had to fight violently against symptoms of seasickness. After the 90-minute crossing, most of the guests were fixed and ready for the effort and partly by the nausea. The fact that the Poseidon III is a small ship (which in itself is an advantage) - has now proved to be a big disadvantage and handicap on this day ...
A great day out - you can get your fill of snorkeling until you are sick of it, and saw pretty much every fish under the sun and some beautiful coral. Can be a bit of a crazy wild ride back to the shore, but sure that is just part of the fun, just make sure you have your ginger or sea sickness tablets in advance!!
The staff were very knowledgeable. Safety oriented! Food and drinks were great and service was top notch!!! Highly recommend this crew and vessel! Waves were rough going back but vessel glided right thru them!
